Wisconsin police use DNA to solve cold case; Illinois man arrested

RACINE – A cold case investigation into the death of a Wisconsin woman in the year 2000 has led to the arrest of an Illinois man after DNA testing. The Racine Police Department say that the DNA collected from the crime scene where a 37-year-old woman was found deceased over twenty years ago was key in identifying the suspect, 66-year-old Lucas A. Alonso of Zion. Authorities say they used a DNA search to locate relatives of a potential suspect, and in February obtained a search warrant for a sample from Alonso. He is being charged with First Degree Homicide.
