PERU – Peru City Council made the decision to call off their annual Christmas Parade that would have been held December 5th after a lengthy discussion at Monday night’s meeting. Alderman Buffo said that it would make the city look like “hypocrites” if they allowed the public to gather for the parade after keeping parks closed earlier in the year. Alderman Payton also said that it would be unfair to both the city employees and the public to hold the parade after all the work the city has put in since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic to keep residents safe. The plan going forward, Mayor Scott Harl explained, is to make the parade bigger and better next year.
