The LaSalle County State’s Attorney says that in light of the recent epidemic of gun violence, her office intends to seek maximum charges for those offenses. State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly says that in light of what appears to be a greater frequency, nationwide, of drive by, school, and execution style shootings, her staff has been instructed to charge at the maximum the law allows for all criminal offenses involving guns. Donnelly adds that no charges will be reduced by plea bargain without her personal approval, and only then under the most compelling of circumstances. Donnelly says that the gun violence is happening closer to home, citing a recent drive by shooting in LaSalle County of an occupied house, that she says narrowly avoided killing an innocent victim.
