SPRING VALLEY – The demolition of parts of the old bridge over the Illinois River is set for today, weather permitting. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Illinois Route 89 and adjacent areas will be closed while the two southern spans of the old bridge are demolished. The area will be closed to traffic starting at 8:15 a.m. and should reopen by 10 a.m. Further demolition and implosions of remaining sections will be announced over the coming weeks. The replacement bridge opened in June.
