LASALLE – The LaSalle City Council met in front of a full crowd Monday evening to discuss plans to annex and vacate several roads south of Troy Grove, focusing particularly on East 3rd Road. Council members informed town residents that a temporary road would be built just west of East 3rd Road so that traffic would not be interfered with. There are no plans to close East 3rd Road permanently, as the temporary road will only serve while Illinois Cement Company, who filed for the temporary vacating of the road, mines for limestone underneath East 3rd Road. The project to mine the limestone should take around 10 years and will result in enough limestone to sustain the cement plant for two years. City Engineer Brian Brown stated that the project should start in the Spring and that the temporary road should be constructed by the Summer. A public hearing regarding zoning changes will take place at 5:30pm on November 29th, while an additional meeting is scheduled for December 3rd to further discuss Illinois Cements petitions for annexation.
