OTTAWA – LaSalle County voters will have the opportunity to express their opinions on a sales tax referendum at a series of get togethers. Earlier this year, the LaSalle County Board approved putting a one quarter of one percent sales tax increase on the April 2nd ballot. Informational meetings are scheduled in Oglesby at IVCC on March 14th, in Streator at the Bruce Township Hall on March 20th, and in Mendota at Main Street Bar March 21st, all at 7 p.m. LaSalle County Finance Chairmen Brian Dose says the tax increase could generate up to 2.8 million dollars annually. The county would not receive the revenue until the summer of 2020. Currently the public safety tax rate is at 6.5 percent and would increase to 6.75 percent.
