Spring has sprung! Local eagles begin nesting

Still taken from video provided by the Illinois Conservation Police

OGLESBY – Prime mating season for local birds has begun, which means we can expect to see more eagles soar across the Illinois Valley. Lisa Sons, Natural Resource Coordinator for Starved Rock and Matheissen Park says eagles are currently nesting preparing to drop their eggs. Typically, eagles lay 1-3 eggs per year and can take up to 35 days for eggs to hatch. You can spot nesting pairs all along the Illinois River and in more unique places, like behind Illinois Valley Community College, where raptor rehabilitator LeAnn Johnson says eagles frequent.
