OTTAWA – A site contaminated with radium in Ottawa is scheduled for cleanup later this year. City Engineer and Director of Community Development David Noble says the Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Emergency Management Association will clean up portions of a property located at the U.S 6 and Route 71 interchange near the Fox River. The contamination stems from the Radium Dial Company Factory in the 1920’s. According to Katie Troccoli, member of an organization that pushed for cleanup thirty years ago, says it has been decades since the state has removed some of the more than 40,000 tons of contaminated soil from the city.
