MENDOTA – Mendota Trojans Soccer took the title of 2019 Regional Champions against DePue/Hall High School’s Co-op in Mendota on Friday. DePue/Hall set the tone in the early portion of the first half with a goal from Robert Harrison, followed by a scoring shot from Jackson Heiden in the second half. Minutes after Heiden’s goal, Trojans showed up with their first score, a header by Rafael Romero. In the last 12 minutes of the second half, Trojans tied up the match with a goal from Emiliano Arteaga. A double overtime couldn’t settle the score between the teams and ended with a sweep from Trojans in a round of penalty kicks. Coach Nick Myers says being in the top seat, he didn’t expect to be down two points starting off.
Trojans will face winners of the Beardstown/Quincy Norte Dame Regional Championship game, next week Tuesday in Peoria.
