Your “Daily Dose of Uplift” for May 13th:
54-year-old Gregg Garfield was in the hospital with coronavirus for 64 days. For 31 of those days, he was on a ventilator. He had a one-percent chance of survival.
But that’s not all. Garfield suffered pneumonia and kidney failure. Four different parts of his lungs collapsed. He was unable to walk. He is believed to have contracted the virus whilst in Italy.
Today, he’s out of the hospital and able to walk with a walker. It was such a profoundly joyous event that the staff at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California gathered to give him a round of applause after he emerged from his wheelchair.
These are the kinds of stories that reassure us in times of crisis. The virus ultimately isn’t a death sentence, and we’re at the point where we can see stories like this emerge. At least for myself, it gives me a tinge of hope.
