Crews prepare for Starved Rock Lock Closure

UTICA – On Tuesday the US Army Corps of Engineers began removing silt, sand and debris from the Starved Rock Lock in preparation for reconstruction.  Starting on July 1st and continuing until the end October, the Illinois Consolidated Closures will close the locks to travel up and down the Illinois River from the Brandon Road Lock & Dam in Will County downstate to the LaGrange Lock & Dam in Brown County. The upper and lower gates will be replaced this summer, and next year the sector gear mechanism that controls the gates will be replaced.
