Peru Police mourn loss of former K-9

PERU – The Peru Police Department are mourning the loss of former K-9 Mackey. Mackey served with Handler Sgt. Art Smith from 2008-2012 and passed away Thursday. He was the city’s first K-9, and assisted in many incidents, including searching for missing persons and drug arrests. After retirement, he was a beloved family pet for the Smith family. A saluting honor guard made up of area law enforcement and responders paid Mackey a final farewell.
