MORRIS – The battle against the burning batteries in a Grundy County industrial fire continues, but authorities say they have seen some progress. The Morris Fire Department say that they have used cement to help contain some of the blaze, but they will still have to allow some of the lithium batteries to run themselves out. Portions of Morris will likely still remain evacuated for some time, as the Illinois EPA is still monitoring air and water near the scene. The fire broke out Tuesday at a business that reportedly contained nearly 200,000 lbs. of lithium batteries. The Illinois Attorney General’s Office is now investigating the business for alleged violations.
