STREATOR – The Streator Fire Department and other area fire departments extinguished an apartment building fire in less than five minutes and all residents are safe. According to the Streator Fire Department, they were called to the 600 block of Morell Street just before midnight on Thursday for an activated fire alarm at Fornof Manors, a multi-story high rise. Authorities say upon arrival crews found smoke throughout the first floor of the building and discovered an active fire in one of the apartments. The fire was under control in less than five minutes. Firefighters assisted in EMS patient care and worked to evacuate the building of smoke. A total of 11 Streator firefighters were on the scene along with Gran Ridge, Reading, Lostant, Leonore, and Allen Township fire departments.
The Streator Fire Department says nearly 50 residents were treated by EMS units. No injuries are reported and no patient required transport for treatment. The investigation into the cause of the fire was conducted by the Streator Fire Department and is said to be accidental. One apartment is deemed unhabitable, however, the rest of the first floor suffered minor smoke damage and the remainder of the building is unharmed.
