OGLESBY – Illinois Valley Community College’s SAGE student organization was recently chartered by Zonta International as a Golden Z Club. A chartering ceremony was held during the yearly InterCity Meeting hosted by the LaSalle Peru Area Zonta Club. Zontians from LaSalle-Peru Area, Ottawa and Streator clubs were in attendance for the dinner meeting and chartering ceremony.
IVCC instructor Dr. Kimberly Radek Hall, President of the LaSalle Area club, gave the welcome and conducted the meeting. Zonta District 6 Area Director Rhonda Thomas of Kankakee gave a keynote address featuring Zonta’s service and advocacy projects done at local, district and global levels.
Z and Golden Z Club District Chair Janice Corrigan of Streator conducted the chartering and District 6 Governor Anna Weselak of Lombard presented the framed club charter to student club members Leah Meyers, Paige Blackburn and advisor Radek-Hall. Weselak then presented the club an honorary gavel and sound block for meetings. Club members were also given yellow rose pins and a copy of bylaws to signify their membership.
Through Z and Golden Z Club programs, members work to bring Zonta International’s mission to students around the world and to stimulate new and meaningful student-led service and advocacy projects. Z clubs are formed on secondary school campuses or in communities and Golden Z clubs are formed on college and university campuses. Student clubs develop communication and leadership skills, explore career alternatives and increase international awareness and understanding through service.
