MENDOTA – Playground equipment in Mendota has been temporarily roped off because of a nesting duck. The Mendota Police report that at the playground adjacent to Lake Mendota a female wood duck has made up a nest and they are asking children and adults to stay away for the time being. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the ducks migrate into the area in February, with nesting occurring from March through July. Six to 14 white eggs are laid per clutch, and sometimes several females lay eggs in the same nest.
