OTTAWA – Authorities are warning of a powerful animal sedative that is being found in victims who have died of a drug overdose. LaSalle County Officials say that statewide a veterinary sedative known as Xylazine, or Tranq, has made street drugs even more dangerous. Naloxone administered in overdose situations are not effective because the drug is not an opioid. LaSalle County has had five deaths attributed to this powerful new drug since 2020.
