SPRINGFIELD – A firefighter who died in the line of duty from northern Illinois will be honored alongside three others by the State Fire Marshal on Tuesday. Lieutenant Garrett Ramos of the Sterling Fire Department died last December after a floor collapsed battling a fire in a Rock Falls home. State Fire Marshal Matt Perez will honor him for his heroic sacrifice and his family will be presented with the Duty Death Gold Badge at the Firefighter Memorial on the State Capitol Grounds in Springfield. Other fallen firefighters to be honored include Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Pickering of the Chicago Fire Department, Firefighter MaShawn Plummer of the Chicago Fire Department and Firefighter Mehdi Mourad of the Wabash Fire Protection District.
