MENDOTA – Speakers on all levels of government spoke about issues from local to national at a Monday luncheon hosted by the Mendota Chamber of Commerce. Congressman Adam Kinzinger, State Senator Sue Rezin, LaSalle County Board Member Curt Faber, Police Chief Greg Kellen, and Alderman John Holland all spoke to the audience at the Mendota Civic Center. Chief Kellen spoke about the ravages of drug addiction in the community, and Alderman Holland and Board Member Faber touched on budget concerns. Congressman Kinzinger spoke at length about tariffs with China and about supporting the rights to practice religion, including how it may help reduce violence. Senator Rezin touched on challenges they are facing in Springfield, including her fight against bills she says are “anti-business”. She gave praise to the flood control coalition that she said has helped reduce damage along the Illinois River, including this spring, where record water levels were seen in north central Illinois.
