DNR reminds public about ATV use on canal trail

OTTAWA – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is reminding those along the I&M Canal Trail that motorized vehicles like ATV’s and Side by Sides are not allowed. They note that operating an off road vehicle on public roads is a petty offense, driving on IDNR property is a Class B misdemeanor with a minimum of $195 fine. The I&M Canal Trail does not allow vehicles to operate on the narrow canal path for the safety of pedestrians and bicycle riders.
