OGLESBY – Robert Dieken and Sue Straughn of Streator announced today that beginning in 2019, three new $1,000 scholarships will be offered annually to Streator High School graduates who have completed their prerequisites and been accepted as first-year Illinois Valley Community College nursing students.
The Dieken Family Foundation-sponsored scholarship will award an additional $1,000 to each student after they’ve completed the second year, earned their associate’s degree and before they sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
“From the moment we started visiting with Bob and Sue about these new scholarships, it was clear he wanted to do something special for Streator High School graduates who were willing to make a commitment to our highly regarded nursing program,” said IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
“Our hope is to replicate the plan elsewhere across the district by matching graduates from IVCC’s other 14 high schools with champions of this noble cause like Bob.
”Dieken, a businessman and philanthropist in Streator for many years, announced in May creation of a $2,000 agriculture scholarship at IVCC. He also sponsors several scholarships at Streator High School and contributes significantly to community projects in Streator.
