MENDOTA – A Mendota woman is facing child endangerment charges after authorities found a child in a smoke filled apartment. On Wednesday the Mendota Police Department say that 25-year-old Alina C. Hernandez was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for two counts of Endangering the life or health of a child. On August 14th, authorities say a child was found unresponsive in a smoke filled third floor apartment in the 100 block of 20th Street in Mendota. According to the Mendota Fire Department, no other persons were located in the residence and the smoke was determined to be the result of burnt food left on the stove. The child was rushed to OSF St. Paul Medical Center and ultimately to St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria and currently is in good condition. Hernandez was taken to the LaSalle County Jail and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
