According to Fire Chief Jeff King, over 100 firefighters were on scene to battle the smokey fire that created zero visibility across several blocks. King said the risk of a collapsing ceiling made it difficult and dangerous to put out the fire, so crews battled defensively from the outside. According to authorities, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire. Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei said traffic was shut down three blocks in every direction. King says residents in the area could experience rusty water for some time. No foul play is suspected in the fire, and the cause continues to be under investigation.
