OGLESBY – Streator Township High School Supt. Matt Seaton will be appointed Illinois Valley Community College’s Vice President for Business Services and Finance.
The board of trustees will make the appointment at its 5 p.m. Monday, May 3 reorganizational meeting. Seaton will start at IVCC June 17. Current V.P. of Business Services Cheryl Roelfsema will retire July 31 after 13 years in the position.
Corcoran said, “I am very much looking forward to working with Dr. Seaton and know that he will do a great job for the college. His leadership team’s track record for success at Streator Township High School speaks for itself and he will quickly find a talented group of dedicated professionals ready to work with him at IVCC.”
When Seaton was hired at Streator in May 2014, the school’s deficit was $1.3 million. By June 2016 it was $42,000 and surplus budgets have been adopted each year since. In addition, STHS will complete a three-phase, $12 million construction plan this summer.
Seaton worked previously in southeastern Illinois as Red Hill Superintendent from 2009 to 2014 and as Red Hill principal from 2007 to 2009. He was director of music at Mount Carmel High School from 2002 to 2007.
He earned bachelor’s, master’s and specialist degrees in education from Eastern Illinois University and the Doctor of Education from Illinois State University in 2019.
A native of Mount Carmel, Seaton was the student trustee and Student Senate President while earning an associate’s degree at Wabash Valley College.
Seaton and his wife Jill, an employee of the Streator YMCA, have six children.
“We are really looking forward to this. IVCC is an excellent fit for us,” Seaton said. “I am so excited about the opportunity to work with the faculty, staff and board of trustees. Dr. Corcoran has been so welcoming. I have a great feeling about this.”
