Tractor-trailer crashes through Peru building after leaving I-80

PERU – A tractor trailer crashed through an empty building off of May Road in Peru Monday morning after the driver reportedly had what was described as a medical issue. Peru Fire Chief Jeff King said the tractor trailer was traveling eastbound after 10 AM on I-80 when it crossed over the median, striking one car traveling westbound, then went off the road through the former antique mall. The driver suffered minor injuries. The building was un-occupied. The truck, which was carrying outboard boat motors, went almost entirely through the structure. The crash is under investigation by the Peru Police and the Illinois State Police.
